Membership
SVO membership is open to all regularly enrolled San Diego State University students.
What is the SVO?
We are a student organization, comprised of mostly student veterans attending SDSU who are transiting back to civilian life by continuing their education. We provide social and community engagement on and off campus. We are the alternative to many of the other student organizations that may feel out of place for our veteran community.
How do I join the SVO?
You have to be an active student enrolled at San Diego State University. THIS IS NOT A VETERAN EXCLUSIVE ORGANIZATION. ANY STUDENT CAN JOIN! Now we do have family and friends of the community and those who may not be students yet whom participate in some of our public events. We try to provide an environment for potential members to see that we are about helping our student veterans succeed. Now being a member is easy. However, many of our benefits are exclusive to our active members.
How do I become an active member?
Must attend at least three events per semester to be an active member. Approved events are Community Service, Fundraising, Camaraderie, and General Body meetings. Now don’t worry; all of these events are fun and engaging and half the time everything is free and there is food! All you have to do is show up! How easy is that?
Membership incentives
To receive a letter of participation, active SVO members must attend two mandatory General Body Meetings plus four events per semester. These events will be either all in, or a combination of, the following areas: Community Service, Fundraising, and Camaraderie. To receive a graduation stole, active SVO members must attend three mandatory General Body Meetings plus three events for two consecutive semesters. These events will be either all in, or a combination of, the following areas: Community Service, Fundraising, and Camaraderie.
What happens at these events?
General Body Meetings: We put out important information about upcoming events and activities. We usually provide food, giveaways and have guest speakers. Community Service and Fundraising is just good times. We go volunteer and then hang out. We will partner with a local business, this partnerships will build community relations and help bring local proceeds back to the SVO. Camaraderie is exactly what it sounds like. We will go bounce around at Get Air or just bounce around doing bubble soccer. We go to our monthly bonfire or we will do some sport activities with some of the other students. Either way you will have fun.
Benefits of Active Membership
Access to our special social engagements. Premier access to our huge networking group throughout San Diego Area and parts of the nation for professional development. Access to specialized scholarships for our student members coming directly from SVO funds and sponsors.
